I was recently browsing in our local garden centre when I saw a gorgeously decorated upside down Christmas tree. That's right, upside down, and I thought it looked great. It was decorated in bright hues--pinks, blues, greens--and with lots of hanging ornaments and curling ribbon, which gave it a very whimsical, Midsummer Night's Dream effect. So while not exactly traditional, and definitely not for everyone, I think the upside down tree is a great way to do something a little different this holiday.
Unfortunately, I didn't have a camera with me but this is the idea...

I also did a little digging and while upside down trees seem to be trendy they're hardly new. Apparently, this practise originates with St. Bonafice and dates back to the Middle Ages when upside down firs were used to represent the Holy Trinity.
Will you be forsaking your traditional tree for an upside down one this year?
