Nicole out to eat at Il Sole

Enjoying a night out on the town, Nicole Richie was spotted grabbing a bite to eat at Il Sole restaurant in West Hollywood on Friday, August 29, accompanied by a friend. She proves once again she isn't afraid to wear an outfit twice. Nicole first wore this dress in June 2006.
I love her Chanel bag.

1961 Branell Mink Trimmed Suit

My attempts to find information about the Branell label have turned up nothing except items for sale on the web. But isn't this suit from 1961 simply stunning? This ad appeared in the September 1961 issue of Vogue magazine.

The ad copy reads, "American Chic: circa 1961. Branell expresses it in a blend of Dacron polyester. Opulence! and purely American opulence - lean, limber, understated. Hilda Altmark of Branell, one of America's designing greats, finds new imagery for this look in Raefords' Dacron polyester, worsted wool and nylon, trimmed with dyed mink. Shapes it, here, in a blouson dress and eased jacket. Today, tomorrow, and tomorrow, this costume will have the same sure opulence, Because it blends wool and nylon with the enlightened chic of Dacron. About $350. At Best, & Co., New York; Joseph Magnin, Juklius Garfinckel, Gus Mayer, Montaldo's."

There are a few things we can talk about here. First of all, the list of stores that sold this suit includes some of the elite department stores across the country in 1961. At $350, this suit was quite an investment. The same suit would cost you about $2500 today. Certainly, Branell was an upscale brand worn by women with money to spend.

This ad shows the DuPont logo prominently in the lower right corner, and the headline states that the suit is made from a blend of Dacron polyester. "Dacron" was DuPont's registered trademark for its polyester fiber, which was introduced in the US in 1951. The polyester fibers would give added shape retention to the fabric, to help avoid the sagging and bagging that can happen over time with a natural fiber such as wool. The polyester would also help with resistance to moths.

The model is wearing a high crown pillbox hat by Mr. John, and white DuPont nylon gloves. The jacket is trimmed with black mink at the hem and has a mink wedding ring collar.

Lumberjack style is big in England

According to the Style Scout, lumberjack cool is really in style in England. I saw a couple of his photos, and honestly, I don't get it. Usually I blog about stuff I like, but in this case I felt motivated to comment on a look that I don't like. If I tried this look I would probably look like an "uncool" lumberjack!

We actually have a local wood-chopping tournement here in Appalachia where I'm sure that there will be plenty of unstylish lumberjacks who are sporting this look! Any fashionistas interested in checking it out, let me know (just kidding).

Nicole in Grazia and Vivi

This article, from the british edition of Grazia, "Style jacked" features celebrities whose style is jacked by other celebrities.

The quality of the scan is not very good so, here's what they say:
Lock up your wardrobe
In life there are alpha females who will seduce and shine way beyond their own stratosphere. Cool and darkly seductive, they end up casting a net of style and intrigue around their group. At first glance these so-called friends may appear to be guilty of fairly innocent copycat flattery, but here at Grazia we are calling it style jacking. It’s time to lock up your wardrobes. If you are Posh, Nicole, Aggy, Stella or Kate, we say watch out!
Nouveau Richie
It used to be all about Paris but these days the pendulum has swung and the cool school in LA are looking to Nicole Richie for sustenance. Why? Because Nicole knows that in Tinseltown if you want to be top of the best dressed list it’s all about trusting your intuition and listening to your inner Yoda. It’s not about screaming the wardrobe down with excessive labels and logo strewn bags. Yawn, so yesterday. And while the sunnies may still be mega watt and the shorts may be even shorter, there is a satisfyingly rumpled crumpled casualness to the whole Richie thing that we are just loving – and Paris is loving and Lindsay…Join the queue. Cool, I am.

Paulette is considered one of the great French milliners. She opened her first shop in Paris in 1921, and by 1939 was designing for royalty and the Hollywood elite. She continued making hats into the 1980's.

This hat from 1961 has a rounded mink brim. It was sold in the Saks Fifth Avenue Paulette Shop. As featured in the September 15, 1961 issue of Vogue magazine.

Project Runway Week 5

This week's Project Runway was really good. The challenge was to design something very innovative using automobile parts. Most of the designers used seatbelts for at least part of the designs, and most of them rose to the challenge. LeeAnn won her first challenge with the dress pictured here. Keith was eliminated. I wasn't too sorry because his designs were not the great and his personality was a little immature and nasty.

Shopping in Montreal Chinatown

Twice in summer, we have this sidewalk sale in chinatown. The stuff is always the same, random chinese stuff. Fake Wallets and jewellery, anime and naruto posters, irresistible cute things. You see, the key is to resist the temptation of all those useless stuff!

Nicole out and about

Finally, new candids! Nicole and hubby Joel were spotted out and about on August 27. Pairing a white cami with skinny jeans, she chose one of her headbands, Chanel sunglasses and Christian Louboutin slingbacks for her accessories.
I think she looks lovely in the latest candids, nothing special, but she looks really good, her hair colour is great.
