. . . while lately have been favouring wallpapered cabinets, {especially in romantic spring florals}, had forgotten how classically beautiful shades of onyx and midnight can be for showcasing stacks of beautiful books and antiques, or a collection of everyday dishware and fine china, and adore how strikingly lovely the palest pink of the roses and stacks of gold-rimmed teacups look against such a background . . .

. . . and while we're on the subject of storage inspiration, have completely fallen for the wonderfully simple idea of using a metal rail meant for the kitchen, for belts and midnight blue velvet clutches, debossed leather handbags, and even a pair of favourite shoes . . .

. . . if the glass-front cabinet in the living room were not filled with books, old photographs and love letters tied with ribbon, it would be filled with shoes, shoes, shoes -- only there would not be room for his things as here, and of course, everything would be heels . . .

. . . one of my very favourite things is to catch pretty glimpses of personal affects -- perfume collections and sequined clutches, bouquets and bangles, and most of all, glittery necklaces artfully displayed . . .

. . . if you have been reading for a while, you will know about a love for placing beautiful things on display at home -- from perfume collections to elegant peeptoes, some things are far too lovely to stow away, and now, with the holidays fast and happily approaching, wardrobes are overflowing with ruffles and sequins and quite adore the idea of displaying shimmery cocktail dresses and alluring evening gowns on a clothing rack {another wonderful example here}, or in a perfectly stylish corner, set up, charmingly, with scarves and hatboxes, like a favourite shop . . .

Collections are nice. But so many take so long to find. You have to go to thrift markets, antique malls, estate sales, garage sales, ebay, etsy... and it can take a while to do it. But lo and behold, what I have discovered.

 Isn't that great!? You can go here on Etsy, and find out tons of instant collections. There are all sorts of bottles, teapots, tins, spoons, frames, glass insulators, letterpress blocks, vintage cameras, salt and pepper shakers, milk glass, keys, plates... and you can buy everything in one listing, from one seller, for one shipping price. I love that idea! A box of goodies all at once, and it looks like you have been painstakingly amassing them for years! Plus, these sellers have awesome shops and shows you how to display your new collections.

. . . isn't this the most loveliest way to display pretty gold necklaces and delicate silver earrings?

. . . have bits & pieces laying about on nearly every surface around the house -- a pair of glamorous & very sparkly earrings for cocktail parties on the bureau, a strand of pearls here and a pair of diamond studs there -- and would be so wonderful to keep things a little more organized, {especially on those mad-dash mornings}, while also turning favourite pieces from those we love into perfectly beautiful works of art . . .

. . . beautiful shimmery bottles on night tables and marble vanities, in leather handbags and hallway consoles . . . have amassed a rather impressive collection of perfume and have always adored the notion of pretty things on display, so completely fell in love with the idea of displaying pretty toiletries in slimline shelving originally intended for plates -- such a wonderfully brilliant and perfectly lovely idea . . .

Of course, these can work for commercial settings as well, though all of these are home displays. Apartment Therapy has a few posts for this and so does The Ardent Sparrow (love the rake idea!)  Very clever :)

Personally, I have metal tiered racks, jewelry trees, the screen frame and shutters. I'll show you pics soon! I think some reclaimed antlers would make a visually interesting piece with lots of storage. What ideas do you have?

With a little bit of glass, a little bit of light, a little bit of ingenuity, a little bit of floral influence~ you can turn a small space into a magical realm of whimsy and escape. Truly, I use spaghetti jars, old teriyaki bottles... I keep all of that stuff and reuse them as vases, and even drinking glasses. Isn't is amazing to see what can be done with old doilies, lace, bottle caps  and an end table?

Take just a little bit of time and redefine a small space today with something you already own in your home or office~ a shelf, corner, night stand, windowsill, you will be glad you did. It's relaxing to sometimes set a stressful thing aside for 20 minutes to spend on beautifying something small and serene, without having to leave the house and go shopping. You can do it for free in your jammies. Sounds nice to me!

Facinator Fascination

As promised, here are my new hair accessories that I brought to my craft fair this past weekend! Some are on hair barrettes, while others are on headbands. I'm sad because I forgot to take photos of a few of my favorites... but I should have them posted in my shop in the next week. A tutorial on making one of these flower barrettes from a store bought silk bloom is coming up too!
