Closet Case

I've had a post about closets in the works for the past week or so inspired by my New Years Resolution to 'appear' more organized.  The condition of my closet is, well, it should be an authorized state of national emergency.  It's bad.  Real bad.  I'm surprised my husband is still married to me, because it could be a valid reason for divorce.  Lucky for me the current issue of Lonny Mag is coming to my rescue! 

You would think my problem is editing, but I have no problem Good Will-ing items I haven't worn in awhile.  My problem is that I'm not utilizing all my space properly (that and I just throw my laundry every which way.  Apparently I don't know what a hanger is for).  I have about 3-4 feet above my hanging rail where I could add a system for off-season shoes, sweaters, etc.  Hmm... I wonder how long it'll take me to get around to actually organizing my closet.  Until then, let's look at some dream closets, shall we?

Would you expect anything less than honeysuckle and lavender from Jamie Drake? My absolute favorite closet would have to be a tie between Rachel Zoe and Kelly Wearstler.  I'm not sure if it's the actual closet designs I'm in love with or the wardrobes they carry.  Either way, I'd take two of each!

All I Want For Christmas

I was saving this post for after Thanksgiving, but Rue Magazine just came out with their new issue and this is their cover:

It must be the blog gods telling me it's time, so here we go!

All I want for Christmas is...  a man's gold watch.  I know, it sounds odd, but bare with me.

 In Amanda Brooks' book, I Love Your Style, she says, "I love the tomboy feeling of a men's watch on a woman's wrist sticking out from under a rolled-up shirt sleeve."  Whether you have sleeves or not, I love the proportion of a chunky watch to a woman's delicate wrist.  I think it is the accessory equivalent of wearing a man's dress shirt as pjs.  Hot. So Hot.

Can This Be Made Into A Room? Rachel Zoe

I go bah-nah-nahs over Rachel Zoe, celebrity fashion stylist and guru.  Her personal style is always on-trend, yet so unique and so, well, Rachel Zoe.  I saw the below image of her a few months back and haven't been able to get it out of my head.  I wondered, "could I make her outfit into a room?" In this post I'm taking on the challenge!

Interior design has similar concepts to styling an outfit.  First, choose your main piece/pieces.  In Rachel's outfit, it's the chiffon maxi dress and for my room, it's the sofa (William Sonoma Home). After the main items are selected, one moves to accent pieces. Rachel's main accents are her leather clutch and gold platform sandals.  My main accents are the leather klismos chair (Arteriors), leather steamer trunk (Restoration Hardware), and to add some height and to break up the horizontal lines, a gilded gold wooden screen (Arteriors).

Rachel always piles on the glamor with her accessories.  Her jewelry collections alone should be in archived in a museum.  I interpreted her wrist full of gold bangles and pendant necklace to be a collection of brass starburst mirrors (Ballard Designs), a brass and marble top Directoire end table (Global Views), and a glass display box (Arteriors).

The piece de resistance of both the outfit and room?  Fur. Gorgeous, soft, luxurious fur. The faux snow leopard throw I included (William Sonoma Home) would be gorgeous hanging just about anywhere in this room- the chair, the steamer trunk, the shoulders of a fabulous lady reclining on the sofa. Sigh. So pretty.

(P.S.  Maybe I am still reeling over yesterday's post on Garrow Kedigian room, but I just had to pop in the Greek inspired pillow (Thomas Paul).   Doesn't it seem fitting?)
