. . . in all of this week's busy-ness and the midst of the rather astonishing revelation that it is already thursday, had very nearly forgotten to tell you the exciting news that a little while ago, received a lovely invitation to be a guest on apartment therapy's the kitchn's charming series, breakfast with a blogger -- and so, take a glass of mimosa and click here to join me for breakfast and read about one of my favourite ways to begin the day . . .

{p.s.} & a very special thank you to leela for the wonderful write-up, and for being utterly delightful and completely understanding of my fashionably late ways

{colour inspiration: hazy shade of winter}

. . . still very much in holiday mode, with a luxuriously late start this morning, filled with daydreams, freshly ground coffee and buttery croissants, and so: taking a few moments to languish in the last few days of the year, welcoming the grey winter days and cozy fire-lit nights filled with excitement for the new adventures that lie ahead . . .

{inspiration: pinkish lavender, still}

Clearly am not the only one who has fallen for such a lovely whisper of colour, as pinkish tones are everywhere lately. . . and if it were not for living with a charming Brit who prefers more neutral tones and perhaps grays, would happily surround myself in this calming and beautiful hue . . .

{p.s. another lovely rosebud pillow}

{it's beautiful here}

Lately have been coming across beautiful "handwritten" words across walls as art, in warm and wonderful messages such as "it's beautiful here" {above} and "And I Love You" {below}, and love the idea of being always inspired by favourite words and phrases . . .

The piece {above} is a neon wall sculpture by Tracey Emin, installed above a photograph by Darren Almond and an incredible glass box filled with gold leaf that sits on the coffee table, from David Gill Galleries.

{a new week + silver pendants}

Once had dinner in an ultra-cool, very modern restaurant with an enormous silver dome lighting fixture above its high-gloss serving bar. Encountered this dramatic lighting once again, last summer, at The Glass House, a beautiful hotel in Edinburgh, where the extravagantly sized fixture hung above a warm and wonderful circular fireplace surrounded by luxurious seating. Discovered the lighting again at another hotel, this time in New York, at The Hudson.

Love the way these pendants look in dining areas, warmed up with soft pillows on banquets, against hints of colour and the grain of wood.

{of birds & butterflies}

Completely charmed by Parisians Colette & Pierre's Ceiling Bird . . . After a visit to the Château d'O in Normandy, Colette fell in love with a flock of ceiling birds that appeared to be holding up the crystal chandeliers in the Château, and immediately set off to recreate a similar effect with the help of an artist friend who was commissioned to paint the elegant bird in their Paris dining room.

The effect is magical.

Reminds me also of the stunning silver-leafed ceiling adorned with silk butterflies from
an earlier post . . .

{perfectly carefree}

Apartment Therapy's 11 Tips for Slowing Down really struck a chord, as I sleep less and less and find myself buried under more projects, appointments, social engagements, and never-ending to-do lists, and while it's great to be busy, it's always wonderful to take a few moments out . . .

{tip #4:}
•
This goes along with doing one thing at a time and is the hardest thing for us: don't open tabs in your browser. Only read one website at a time and don't open 16 more in tabs to read later. Just one at a time (and don't spend all night doing it either!).

Besides having a myriad of tabs and applications open, the lack of sleep, and constant e-mailing checking {BlackBerrys did make it to The City of Light, despite good intentions}, realize that the times that I feel most relaxed is when we drop everything and drive out of the city for a weekend get-away . . .

One of my favourite times where I felt completely and perfectly carefree was {here}

{When was the last time you felt carefree and what do you do to unwind at the end of the day?}

{happy weekend + bar carts}

{Jacob Hertzell, stylist; via emmas designblogg}

Looking forward to a little down time this weekend, especially time outdoors on our recently refurnished patio . . .

Not certain if anyone still uses bar carts, but sitting and dreaming en plein air for a few moments somehow made me think a moveable place for water and lemons and fizzy drinks and wine would work out beautifully . . .
