I pretty much danced throughout Bassnectar's entire set last night. It was the most fun I've had at a show in a long, long time.

I saw Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings Friday and it was soooo much fun. I highly recommend seeing her live.

Nashville flood

The flooding here in Nashville is absolutely astonishing. It's hitting close to home for me, I walked about a quarter of a mile down the street to find the bottom of my hill completely flooded.

It's just surreal to see so much water everywhere.



My heart goes out to everyone that lost their home or business.

Apothia Soul

Last weekend I walked into Imogene + Willie and smelled the most wonderful fragrance. I felt like Bloodhound trying to find the source and finally realized it was the Apothia Soul candle in the entryway. They told me that I would be hooked if I bought one I think they were right. $46 seems super ridiculous for a candle, but I swear it's worth it.

Nashville

Gwyneth Paltrow spent the past few monts living in Nashville while shooting Love Don't Let Me Down with Tim McGraw and Leighton Meester. I kept hearing of Gywneth sightings all over town and I thought to myself, "She'll totally do a GOOP dedicated to the Music City." And voila... looks like she made it around town pretty well.

The Woman in You

My music taste has been all over the place as of late.

Daft Punk to Beach House to Cat Power to Gorillaz to Yeasayer and now Ben Harper. I've always wanted to see him live and he's coming to town for Rites of Spring!

Pothole gardens

Nashville has a plethora of unfriendly potholes scattered about thanks to a terrible winter. British artist Pete Dungey plants gardens in the unsightly potholes, "If we planted one of these in every hole," he says, "it would be a like forest in the road."

Being born and raised in Nashville kind of embeds you with the sounds of fiddles and pedal steel guitar. And I appreciate that. I also really appreciate Lady Antebellum. Country music needs more trios like this.

It's the small things in life, really, it is.

Perusing through blogs tonight, I happened upon an old favorite, Elements of Style. Noticing some photos I had saved in the past, I jumped to the designer's website without reading much (I have what I like to call, "reader's ADHD".) As soon as the website loaded I heard a familiar tune from my friend Jack. Yes, Seven Nation Army orchestra style.


So then I headed back to Elements of Style to soak in the post in it's entirety. At this point I knew this had to be special because having the White Stripes as your background music means we're instantly soul mates, not to mention that I completely get your design aesthetic.


Ryan had been featured on the Selby so I jumped over there to check out his place. Shocked, I had swooned over his pad a gazillion times. Once again, my reader's ADHD deferred me from investigating who this guy was. I think I had assumed "up and coming fashion designer" at one point. But seriously, from the red Persian rugs (I currently have 3), the brushed gold coffee table (my side tables are nearly identical to his), to the blue and white china (Spode's "Blue Italian" has been on my imaginary wedding registry since high school)... this guy is so up my decorating alley.


Then lets talk lighting. He has an affinity for gold fixtures, as do I. I feel like so many people are anti-gold and all nickel and pewter. The fixture in the kitchen is adorable and the faux bamboo bedside lamp... you're killing me Ryan.


So Ryan, why don't you come down to Nashville and hang out? I'll take you to Third Man Records, to my favorite antique shop and then back to my place to sit on my Turkish beauty while we watch It Might Get Loud. Then we can decorate!

My friend David blogged on the NY Times Style Map of Nashville this morning. I wish they would have mentioned something on the East Side too. There are some cool restaurants over here.


If you live in Nashville and haven't been to The Patterson House, shame on you. It's the best bar in town. A little pricey, but worth it.

Use Somebody

I'm not a fan of Paramore but their cover of Kings of Leon's "Use Somebody" is really, really good.

I've got a bullet in my pocket...

The Dead Weather made their (public) Nashville debut at War Memorial last night. It was nothing less than spectacular. But then again you shouldn't expect anything less from Jack White and Co. (whoever the company is at this point.)

Remember when...

I love looking at old photos, especially of Nashville, to see how things have changed through the years. It's even weirder when I can remember areas that were once fields and are now suburban shopping mecas. That's why I love this photo series by Jason Powell. What a great way to show the past and the present.
