Blessing Day

Today was our baby's blessing day. It's not the same as a christening or baptism, as we wait till the age of 8 as members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, but the baby blessing serves to formally put the child's name in the records of the church. It is also like a father's blessing, totally inspired of blessings and promises of things to come in the childs life if they remain faithful.

His father gave him the blessing, as he did our first son, and it was beautiful. Some of the promises were that he would be "blessed with the sweet experiances of the Holy Ghost, that you may be able to walk in darkness having the light of the Lord one step in front of you." That means, that in times of hardship, that the Lord will be there guiding my son. This is just one of the beautiful promises said. My lovely aunt made his blessing outfit, complete with a little vest and tie!




On another note... my oldest did his first ACEO !! I think it interesting he chose the markers green and blue to color on a card with the word "Yellow", and an image of a mustaced man holding yellow ballons below a big yellow square.

He is such a true mixed media artist, perhaps he used these color combinations to speak about art and function? The yellow card... he added a blue marker, and the green marker to show what happens when blue and yellow are mixed? The man holding the balloons under a square, could be like withholding freedom in a boxed in world? I especially love how he put his whole heart, soul, and face in this piece. (Anything is better than his poopoo paintings... I will spare you the pics this time).

Something So Right

Forgive me, dear readers. I volunteered to do a 27 Dresses feature over on the Vintage Fashion Guild Blog and that project has pulled me away from my own writing here. All I can say is, "I'm back!"

Isn't this 1950's dress gorgeous? There are things about vintage dresses that make me smile, but it is rare to find so many of them in one dress. Let's see....
It's silk.
It's got a full circle skirt.
It's got pink roses.
It's got a pink lining to match the roses.

It's got a halter neckline that is sexy as anything!

Some of the pink roses are sprinkled with rhinestones.
And, to top it all off, some of the pink roses are quilted and padded for a 3-D effect.

The clear glass doors on Nicky Hilton's built-in {above}, remind me of Liza Giles' French armoire {below} in her London flat. I quite like the idea of the transparent doors, which is similar to using library storage for pretty shoes and clutches, in which the items themselves become decorative, as opposed to being hidden away, adding dashes of colour and interest to a room.

And while we're on the subject of closet space, I thought of Swedish stylist Sasa Antic's adorable and perfectly planned closet. While I might hesitate at the idea of pinching the tops of my leather boots with clips, I love the look of this space, and must admit that it's a pretty clever space-saving idea.

Customer Appreciation Pics!

I do a lot of custom orders for tutus and such... so usually my customer appreciation picture I leave in the feedback is a picture of their finished item.



But since I have been selling more of my premade goodies, I decided I needed a good fixture for the pic. It's my kiddo on Halloween as Mr.T !!

Puppets!!

I have been making my glove puppets as custom only on Etsy... but I know as a buyer myself, I prefer to buy something outright, so I have really been needing to get these puppets ready and in the shop. So, my wonderful sister, BumblebeeBaby sewed up several puppet bodies for me (I create the patterns, and she sews them up in exchange for me doing her hair ;) so now I have a stash of blank puppets to work on! They sale really well at craft fairs... mostly I think because my sweet hubby walks around with one talking to people. They eat it up!



So here is my new hand puppet! The larger glove puppets are sooo fun, but a little more expensive and require both hands to use. These smaller hand puppets are great for kids for imaginative play and teachers to use in the classroom, because they can still use their other hand to write on the board, lead the music, point to pictures... I can't wait to get the other colors and varieties available!
