What’s happened to reading?

Everyone’s parents have told us at one point or another in our youths that we don’t read books anymore. After giving it a bit of thought, it dawned on me. Our generation has no attention span whatsoever. Have you ever realized, that you will subconsciously try to keep yourself occupied with something unchallenging at all times?

The perfect example for this would have to be the moment you open up a browser on your computer. You won’t admit it, but your brain has already switched off. If it didn’t switch off then, it will when you start to type out the word “facebook”.

The thing is, the previous generation had books as one of the sole forms of entertainment. There weren’t loads of distractions like there are now, but distractions shouldn’t be the excuse not to read.
Reading is an amazing way to broaden your imagination. You can truly get lost in a good book for hours on end, only finding your way out of it when you turn the last page. For all those who love to read, the book lounge is where to go.

The book lounge has a wide, weird and wonderful selection of books, and if they don’t have the one you want, they’ll track it down for you. The shop itself, on the corner of Roland Street, has a warm feel, with its old wooden floors and high ceilings. You can, just like with a good book, completely forget the time and get lost in the book lounge.
